We made it. Friday. *relief*
I popped into my local music shop yesterday to see what they had in the way of ukuleles. I don’t know if I was surprised or not about them not really having anything worth looking at. I am a beginner but I have a musical background and have done my research. They are selling the Kala brand, which can be nice if selling the right kind. However they are going for the gimmicky colored, painted, screen printed cheap ukes. They would probably work for what I need them for but I want something that will last and won’t need a bunch of work, right out of the gate. I don’t want to have to restring it or try to adjust the bridge in anyway. I just want to know it will last. They had one that was of a higher tier but it was way over priced. I know they need to make a profit but you also have to assume that they get it at a cheaper price and still jack it up to the customer. Don’t get me wrong I love that store and the owner, but I may just get what I want online.
Tonight is the slow pitch softball game it looks like it won’t be rained out, so I’ll try to remember to let you all know how it went. This will lead me right into this weekend. Saturday we are throwing my grandpa a surprise 80th birthday party. It is out on the lake about an hour and a half away. It will be huge. There may be upwards of 90 people coming at any given time. He is very well known and has plenty of friends so we knew that would happen. My family has done a good job keeping this a secret from him. It’s an all day event. I don’t like how I may have been roped in to direct F-ing traffic while people come in. I’m not really sure how that happened. I’m sure my wife won’t like the idea of leaving earlier than we have to, and I can’t blame her. Either way it will be a fun day and it will br great to see everyone.
Since we have Monday off for Memorial Day, I will be back to work Tuesday. This won’t be in any way a normal week for me. I may not even be able to blog everyday. We will have to wait and see. As you should know I have been coming in early one day a week for the last 10 or so weeks, to train running operations. Well the time has come for me to put that practice to the test. The person normally in charge of running it all is off on vacation that whole week. I will be the one filling in for her. I will have a full-ish week of running everything on my own for the first time. I have to be to work at 6am each day, but in turn I get to leave at 2:15pm. It will be hectic and busy, as I am not 100% confident on every little thing, but I should be able to get through it. Once other people arrive I will be able to ask for help if need be. It is basically all done on an IBM i-Series, AS400 system. It is all written in RPG programming language, of which I know none of. I don’t need to know how to code anything to do this job, but I’m sure it would help in my understanding of what I’m supposed to be doing. I like to understand the whole process when doing something. Anyway, it will just be running terminal commands, printing reports, printing queries, running batches, and scheduling employees. I just hope there are no random issues, because I have had no training on how to troubleshoot anything. This would put me at a stand still until someone else arrived. I want to do a good job to show everyone that I know what I am doing. I want to be the person that others can depend on for guidance and answers, so nailing this week would really help. Since I write most of these entries later in the afternoon, I may not be able do them everyday, but I will certainly try. I may just write them from home instead, who knows.
I hope you all have a great Memorial Day weekend, and I’ll see you back on Tuesday!
