Mastodon Taking On Twitter!

Hey Everyone!

It was another rainy day here yesterday so I didn’t do anything outside. Which is OK, since everything I have to do outside cost money that I don’t have. We did manage to get a whole bunch of laundry done and watch some Netflix! 😀

I mentioned before that we had started looking into child care, and today we may have a breakthrough! A guy I work with said that his wife would be able to watch our kid, come August, as long as we could make the agreement work to everyone’s liking. They don’t live far away and it would be cheaper than paying a daycare provider. I really hope something like this works out so we can cross it off our list of things to deal with. That would allow us to free up time for other things.

Switching gears, have you heard of the new social media platform Mastodon? It is an open source replacement to Twitter. It is better in many ways. Some of what I have seen and read are that the feed is purely chronological, which Twitter has gotten away from. Another thing is that anyone, since it is open source, can run their own server and have their own instance of Mastodon. that helps it stay free. Speaking of free, they don’t allow ads and corporations, to control any part of it. It is very user friendly, and allows you to see your own feed, a large public feed, and the feed of your particular instance. So which ever one works best for you, or all three.

Here you can see what it looks like on a desktop. One your mobile phone there are a couple apps depending on your phone type. I have an android device so I run an app called Tusky that interfaces with Mastodon. It is quick and easy to get set up, so grab your friends and try it out!

Again switching gears, I have a Masonic meeting tonight. It will be the last meeting before our large one day class on Saturday. I’m not sure what they are having for dinner but I bet it will be good!

For the fourth random topic, I have been on a low carb diet for about a month and I have lost over 20 pounds. I have been doing about no exercise, and just watching what I eat like a hawk. I make sure to have three meals a day and keep the carbs to a minimum. I also make sure that I don’t snack between meals, and that I don’t drink overly sugary drinks, like pop, or weird juice cocktails.

  1. I’ve never heard of Mastodon, but then again I tend to be a late adopter!

    Congrats on the weight loss. The Mister and I have been on this thing called the Fast Metabolism diet by Haylie Pomroy. It feels like we are eating ALL the time (up to 6 times a day sometimes), but it seems to be working. Haylie says most people can lose around 20 lbs in the first 28 days. The Mister has already lost 17 lbs and it’s only been around 2 weeks! I weighed the first day and I’m not getting back on the scales until the 28 days is up. I want it to be a surprise. I do know I’ve lost some weight though because my jeans are looser and my boss said today it looks like I’ve lost weight! 🙂
